We are accepting submissions for our 8th Annual Customer Art Contest here at DANIEL SMITH, and we have a $1,500 DANIEL SMITH Gift Certificate for the Grand Prize Winner!

There are 4 prizes in total awarded:

“Best of Gage” Student Art Show Coming up Next Week at Gage Academy of Art

"Best of Gage" Student Art Show at Gage Academy of Art, sponsored by DANIEL SMITH

The 17th annual “Best of Gage” Student Art Show will be Friday evening, June 19th at the Gage Academy of Art here in Seattle, and DANIEL SMITH is happy to be a Sponsor.

The event will be from 6pm to 9pm at the Gage Academy of Art in the Steele Gallery, throughout the school hallways, and in the studios. There will be a special “Vernissage” (”a reception at a gallery for an artist whose show is about to open to the public”) from 5pm to 6pm with Fine Wine for $50, please “Contact Katie Mosehauer at 206-323-4243 x16 for details”.

Rock Hushka, Tacoma Art Museum, Curator of Contemporary and Northwest Art will be Guest juror. There will 7 categories: Beginner, Abstract, Figure, Portrait, Landscape, Sculpture, Still Life, and “Best in Show“. A “People’s Choice Award” will be voted on that evening by everyone attending. The Award Ceremony will be at 7:30pm for the announcement of the winning Artwork.

This year will be the first time that some of the work will be offered for sale. This will be a One-Night-Gallery opportunity to add some Original Art priced between $100 and $1,000 with 50% to help support Gage Academy. Besides the student artwork submitted for the “Best of Gage“, there will be additional student artwork and instructor artwork on display through out the school, some of which will also be for sale.

Should be a fun evening, I’ll be there!

It’s Launched! Our New and Improved DANIEL SMITH Website!

Helloooo New DANIEL SMITH Website!

We are so excited to have our “New and Improved” DANIEL SMITH website up and running!

Now, you may not have noticed since we have kept the look of the website similar, but we hope your experience using it is better. Our easier to use website has been something we know you have been wanting for awhile and we are happy to now have it for you.

You should have an easier time searching for items AND finding them. I have done some “test driving” around the website and have found it easier to use after I got used to the ways it is different.

Bye, Bye Old DANIEL SMITH Website!

Now, I have found a few “bugs” that will need to be fixed and passed them on to be fixed, there is always some tinkering that has to be done when something of this scope is first launched. We have A LOT of wonderful ART SUPPLIES (aka Goodies!) on our website, so there are bound to be a few items that have gotten “missed” in the transition.

So if you find an issue, leave me a comment to let me know what you are having a hard time finding and I’ll pass it on to get it fixed!

One thing that is still missing off the DANIEL SMITH website (and hard to find at its’ ”temporary parking address” at danielsmith.realestatetomato.net ) is the DANIEL SMITH Blog…that will be fixed soon too!

Camano Island Studio Tour 2009 and DANIEL SMITH: Artists’ Materials

This coming weekend is the 11th annual Camano Island Studio Tour , and DANIEL SMITH Artists’ Materials is happy to help sponser the Camano Arts Association annual Studio Tour again this year. It’s a 3 day event on May 8th, 9th, and the 10th which is Mother’s Day. This is a really nice way to spend the Day with Mom, or your friends, seeing wonderful Art, and perhaps commemorating the Special Day by supporting an Artists’ work by purchasing some Art to take home! There are 35 Studios open to the public with over 60 Artists participating so there is sure to be something Special that may catch yours, or your Moms’ eye!

Last year, a group of us from DANIEL SMITH carpooled to Camano Island to enjoy the day seeing all the wonderful Art on Display in the Studios. We had a great time going from Studio to Studio as we drove around the island . There was so much to see and enjoy, not just all the Art, but Camano Island is beautiful and the day we went was partly sunny. So many flowers were blooming in the gardens we passed by and through, and the views of the Sound were captivating.

Unfortunately, while we won’t be going as a group this year (there is an Art Materials Trade Show {NAMTA} happening in Kentucky) we will certainly be there in spirit. I urge you to visit Camano Island, go on the Studio Tour and have a very enjoyable day of Art!

Happy Birthday DANIEL SMITH Blog!

Today is the first anniversary of the DANIEL SMITH Blog!

When I wrote “Welcome to the Daniel Smith Blog !” a year ago today, we started on another blog platform (Blogspot.com) to give blogging a try. After a few months we began the process of building a custom blog, and eventually I moved over all the original posts to this blog, those posts you will see at the bottom: “Originally Published….” and a link to the original blog post.

I am so *excited* to be celebrating our First Year!

Now that we have arrived at this point, I am hoping to expand what I write about on the DANIEL SMITH blog to include more about what we are doing here at DANIEL SMITH Artists’ Materials, more information on our products and who knows! It will be fun, informative and have lots of ideas to help you to: Every Day, Express Yourself with ART…. So please come along with us, and as I wrote one year ago today: “We will be on a journey together!”

Earlier today I was playing around with some Google searches and rummaging around looking for DANIEL SMITH references and found out (how did we miss that?) we were one of the Winners for Seattle’s NBC channel, KING 5 , “Evening Magazine “, “Best of Western Washington“!

The “Evening Magazine” viewers voted on many different catagories and choose us.

How cool is that?

A BIG “Thank You” to all who voted for us, and to each of You who shops in our stores, our catalog and online for your Art Supplies we are grateful for your support!
