Saturday:  Cissy Gray will demonstrate how to work with oil bars and “…how they compare to oil paints.  [she'll] use nitrile gloves when painting with the oil bars to apply them much like finger painting.  [She'll] occasionally use a brush for detail.  Because the oil bar color are so vivid, you can achieve a jewel like finish.”  Cissy will also touch upon “principals of design, composition, value, color and shape….”

Sunday:  January 17th, Bruce Edwards will be demonstrating how to use Water-Soluble Oil Paints and How To Paint with Water-Soluble Oils.  If you have hesitated from using oils because of the solvents used with brush clean up (you can also use vegetable oil to clean up rather than turpentine etc.) or stopped using oils for the same reason, then you will be able to find out more about this alternative way to oil paint.

Day One: Tired of struggling with watercolors, oils, acrylics, or pastels? Discover the exciting, creative, and versatile medium of color pencil. Learn about various color pencils, paper surfaces, and related materials or tools. Students will complete a study using layering techniques. Open to all levels of art experience. Participants under 16 admitted with instructor permission only.
Day Two: Learn to create vividly realistic colored pencil paintings using the “burnishing” technique. Gary will give a brief discussion of the burnishing process, and step-by–step demonstration. Participants then complete a painting from supplied notes and visual aids.

Sunday, January 10th Janice Seino, will be demonstrating painting with acrylic and sharing tips on making textured surfaces and manipulating the surface to expand the creative expression.

 

 

This past weekend we had a Special, FREE “Hands On” Art Event, our DANIEL SMITH PrimaTek Watercolors and DS Extra Fine Watercolor Stick Extravaganza! 

 

Instead of our regular FREE “How To” Weekend Art demos at our Seattle Store and Bellevue DANIEL SMITH Stores this past weekend, we offered one of our Special “Hands On” Art Events.  These “Hands On” Events allow everyone who attends the opportunity to try out the Art Supplies featured at the Event. 

 

The Seattle Store had Annie Van Engelen in the Gallery/Demo room demonstrating, answering questions and encouraging everyone to paint using the PrimaTek Watercolors and the Watercolor Sticks on various watercolor papers:  Yupo paper, UArt Sanded Pastel Paper (wasn’t out but you could use the Wallis Archival Sanded Pastel [mulit media] Papers) and Fredrix Archival Watercolor Canvas Pad.

 

The Bellevue Store had Artists Sales Associates Craig on Saturday, and Joe on Sunday, demonstrating and answering questions at the “Try It” table set up near the front of the store while customers tried out our DS PrimaTek Watercolors and DS Watercolor Sticks for themselves.
